This is a very comprehensive review of the Science of Heredity with excellent illustrations that serve to provide an understanding of a very difficult subject. As an anthropologist whose research interest is in peopling of the world, this helped me to understand a growing line of evidence that can support archaeology, biological anthropology, and linguistics in investigating human origins.
Surprisingly, this book doesn't make you feel bogged down with an overwhelming amount enzymes, gene names, and otherwise esoteric terms. Complex ideas are explained without using overly-technical figures of speech (although there is plenty detail for those looking for it, this book focuses mainly on learning the concepts) in a way that allows you to sit down and read the book without having to re-read every sentence 10 times because every other word is a proper noun of some sort.

Overall, its a very well written and highly informative book that covers a lot of ground. Recommendable.
As a college text book, page numbers that reflect the print edition are absolutely essential to orient yourself to assigned material. What material will be covered in class that day? It's anyone's guess as this edition does not contain page numbers.
I have this book in PDF format. I ordered the newer 3rd edition and after a quick review of the 2nd edition pdf and the 3rd edition book to compare information about VNTR's/microsattelites I ordered this 2nd version in hard copy. This book really is a gem. I took Genetics with the book Human Heredity (not suggested for the detail minded) and find this 2nd edition would have been far more helpful. The pictures, charts and figures are outstanding for visual learners. I am not sure what the previous reviewers issue is but this book is really great, especially for the current going prices starting at 6$. This book can't be beat if you need refreshing or need extreme detail to understand big picture concepts. Highly recommended!
I use this book and my required class book Modern Genetic Analysis Integrating Genes and Genomes. And this book has been a great source for understanding the material. This book is more current so the material it presents makes more sense to other gen-bio material learned. I highly recommend it!!
If your professor doesn't require the 5th edition textbook, this solutions manual is a must. There are minute differences between the 5th edition and the 4th, so this is a cheap alternative if purchased used. I got a good grade in my genetics lecture due to studying the practice material in the book. The only qualm I have is the lack of step by step explanation
This Genetics book literally saved my life when I was take a higher level genetics class. The illustrations are well done and very in-depth which is great when you have a teacher that expects you to know every little thing. I read the entire book and rarely did I get confused and have to look up concepts on the internet or ask for more explanations. I would also recommend the study guide book that has questions and in-depth answers to problems and concepts taught in this book. It was also a great help.
